After proving himself to be a worthy A-list star in Telugu films, Siddharth Narayan makes a return to Bollywood four and a half years after the critically acclaimed 'Rang de Basanti'.
In 'Striker' Siddhart plays a carrom champ, he had reportedly turned down movies like Rock On and Delhi 6. The film has been getting some good buzz, and thanks to its smart marketing strategy its expected to garner good collections and positive word of mouth through the weekend. 'Striker' would be available for streaming on video sharing site YouTube starting today, all you would need is a decent internet connection.
However, the film will only be available for NRIs, specifically to those in the US. For those in countries other than the US, you can download 'Striker' for free on Studio18's YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/studio18 - note that this link would not work for those living in India. But we all know how fast the movie will be duplicated for the sake of Indians once a free copy of the film launches online .
Striker is directed by Chandan Arora and stars Siddharth Narayan, Padampriya Anupam Kher, Aditya Panscholi and Vidya Malavade. Produced by Studio18, 'Striker' is an action-drama set in a Mumbai ghetto in the mid '80's and based on true life accounts. According to the synopsis, 'Striker is a story of triumph of human spirit over indomitable odds. It is not a film about good versus evil. It is the story of a friendship, life in the city of dreams in the 80's, a story of a game that is most common but non-existent. A story of a Carrom player who grows up on the fringes of a criminal existence but does not succumb to it.'
YouTube first partnered with Sony to bring Hollywood classics like Cliffhanger and the 1967 version of Casino Royale online in a move to wants to expand its library of movies and TV shows. Full-length clips have been available on the video streaming site for some time, but with the company promising "thousands of television episodes and hundreds of movies", it has introduced easier ways of finding them. YouTube is also developing a new advertising model, which allows programme-makers to place commercials into the ad breaks of television shows being watched online. We suspect there would be ads that pop in online Bollywood films as well.
