The 2nd edition of the Green Globe Foundation awards was held at the Taj Palace, New Delhi on Saturday, the inaugural evening of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit. An exclusive award that salutes citizens for their overreaching contributions towards environment preservation and regeneration, the Green Globe Foundation felicitated some outstanding personalities and contributions this year too.

However the surprise contender this year was Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar's son Aarav who was presented the Green Globe Foundation Award, making him the youngest person to ever win the honor. Aarav and Rahul Bose honored Aarav won the award for being the youngest person committed to sponsor and support a village under the Light a Billion Lives campaign. The kid adopted a village which didn’t have access to grid electricity and provided the villagers with solar lanterns. Aarav took the idea last year, inspired by Preity Zinta, who did the same on her birthday.

Unfortunately Akshay and Twinkle were not present to see their son receiving this honor as they were in Germany undergoing a course in hydrotherapy. The beaming young hero attended the event with his grand ma and actor Dimple Kapadia who took the award with him. The Green Globe for Extraordinary Work by a Public Figure was awarded to actor Rahul Bose for playing an active and constructive role in taking upon the green pledge and for spreading awareness about environment issues affecting our earth.

The actor also vigorously worked towards educating people about ecological protection through his blog. However, Bose was in Shanghai and accepted the Green Globe award from Nobel Prize winner Dr Pachauri via telephone. Actor Kabir Bedi performed a poetic monologue At the event, Kabir Bedi recited a moving poetic monologue about green cause to the musical sound of India’s father of jazz, Louis Banks on the grand piano.

The poetry was penned by Anoushka Joshi, daughter of renowned writer Abhijat Joshi (writer of 3 Idiots). Dia Mirza also read out a poem written by Anoushka Joshi. Hollywood actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan spoke via satellite to deliver their message of commitment to the green cause at large. Abhishek spoke on the effects of global warming and how it can be condensed.

The Green Globe Foundation awards event hosted by Mandira Bedi saw a large number of world personalities including the First African woman and environmentalist who won the Nobel Peace Prize Ms. Wangrai Muta Maathai, his Excellency Jigme Yoser Thinley, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, and the first female Prime Minister of Norway, Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland.
